Enough people will believe it because they are ignorant or lemmings. John Kerry claims we will have an ice free Arctic in 5-10 years. On Thursday Kerry was promoting the climate change legislation and said that “instead of waiting until 2030… we will have an ice-free Arctic in five to ten years.” Kerry cannot provide the scientific source of his assertion but his office has said in the past that they use information provided by NOAA. So what do you do? You go to the NOAA website and see what they have to say.

NOAA does say that the Arctic could be nearly ice free in the summertime within 30 years. J.E. Overland and Muyin Wang say their computer models predict an expected value for a nearly sea ice free Arctic in September by 2037. That is the most likely scenario of 6 computer models they ran. The earliest sea ice free summer could be the late 2020’s but that is not mathematically probable. When asked about an ice free summer in 5-10 years, Wang said that would be remote and extreme. Wang said there will always be ice in the winter as well as glacial ice in the summer.

No surprise that Kerry is not responding to requests for information regarding his current claim. And no surprise that many people will believe him, panic and decide we need to enact ruinous legislation to save the planet.
