I think they call this a teachable moment

Yacht

What lesson shall we learn today boys & girls? How about the word of the day is hypocrisy. Or shall we talk about fairness or equal treatment or maybe how the rules don’t apply to everyone. I’ll let you decide the lesson, I’ll just tell the story. The yacht shown above is John Kerry’s new toy. A 76 foot New Zealand built sloop with 2 VIP cabins, wet bar, cold wine storage and every amenity the average public servant would want. You may recall that John Kerry is the senior Senator from Massachusetts but for some reason the Senator did not take his boat to Nantucket MA where he and Teresa maintain a “cottage.”

No Senator Kerry has decided to berth his yacht in Newport RI. I wonder why? (sarcasm alert) Maybe it’s because RI repealed their Boat Sales and Use tax back in 1993 but cash strapped MA has not. John Kerry’s home state collects a 6.25% sales tax as well as an annual excise tax on yachts. The Kerry’s paid about $7 million for this little boat saving themselves $437,500 or so in sales tax and $70,000 annually in excise tax. Not a bad business decision.

Yet Senator Kerry continually preaches about the rich having to step up and pay their fair share; as per my post yesterday he is also pushing the carbon tax that will affect all of us and we don’t have the ability to hide anything like he does and avoid the tax. I’d say lesson #1 is hypocrisy but you decide.
